April

Buffalo District Church Extension Society initiated steps to organize a Methodist Church and purchased property at the corner of Harlem and Saratoga Roads.

1949

March 19

Ground broken for a parsonage.

1949

September 11

First worship service, 100 people filled the basement of the parsonage.

1950

January 8

103 charter members received.

1950

November

Cornerstone laid for church building.

^
1955

Pledged partial support of Norman and Alice Parsons, missionaries in Japan.

1959

March 16

1,000th member received.

1962

March 11

Present sanctuary dedicated.

1986

Became first partnership church for Habitat for Humanity, Buffalo.

1993

Became a Global Mission Partner church, supporting Rev. Mark and Diane Abbott in their work at the United Evangelical Theological Seminary in Madrid, Spain and the work of Clara Swain Hospital in Bareilly, India.

1997

Christ Church builds a Habitat home.

1999

Begin partnering with Journey’s End Refugee Services, sponsoring our first family.

2008

Pipe organ upgrade project completed.

2016

Christ Church begins a revitalization process.

2022

Joins the Reconciling Ministries Network.

Christ Church Amherst is part of the Reconciling Ministries Network, a national group of United Methodists that celebrates that LGBTQ+ persons are an expression of God’s diverse creation and exists to advocate for the affirmation of all of God’s children in the Church and the world.
